SUMMARY:UNIT II: Welding Safety & Cutting Processes
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Unit II: Welding Safety & Cutting Processes. This is the second of seven units that comprise Welder Corps. While we do allow some units to be taken out of order\, we do recommend you follow the sequence if possible. (Please contact us for further information.) \nUNIT II: Welding Safety & Cutting Processes (Tuesdays & Wednesdays 1:30-5:30pm)\nPROGRAM OVERVIEW \nIn this unit\, the following NCCER topics\, testing and performance profiles will be completed: \n(NCCER Welding Level 1: 5th edition) \n29101 Welding Safety \n29102 Oxyfuel Cutting \n29103 Plasma Arc Cutting \n29104 Air-Carbon Arc Cutting/Gouging \nNCCER Credentials\nThe National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) is a nationally recognized\, modular and transportable training curriculum in over 70 skilled trades. We will be using NCCER Welding Level 1 (5th Edition) for this unit. \nWe provide relevant NCCER books to check out of our library while you are enrolled in a unit. (You may purchase these books if you are interested but we will provide all necessary texts.) As a group\, we will discuss written materials and PowerPoints. Participants are expected to read relevant modules and complete learning assessments at home. Additionally\, all PowerPoints will be available through our website to review at home as often as you wish. \nWritten tests will be completed electronically in our classroom under the supervision of one of our instructors. Successful completion of an NCCER module is 70% or better to demonstrate minimum proficiency. If a participant does not meet this requirement\, they need to wait a minimum of 48 before retesting. There are no additional fees for retesting; 3 retest maximum. \nAll performance profiles will be completed in person under the supervision of an NCCER certified instructor. Once both the written test and performance profile are completed for any NCCER module\, it will appear on the www.nccer.org website and can be verified by a potential employer. [Note: Absolutely NO personal information is shared on this platform. ONLY full name\, NCCER number and successful NCCER completions are listed.] You want to share these accomplishments! \nAlso\, NCCER does not require any age minimum so please contact us if you have a mature youngster who is ready to start gaining life skills and be job-ready. \nPLEASE NOTE\nAll necessary PPE and equipment will be available for use on site. It is not necessary to purchase your own welding gear or equipment. If you have your own PPE and wish to use it\, please have it inspected by an instructor during the first class meeting. \nHOW UNIT II WELDING SAFETY & CUTTING FITS INTO THE WELDER CORPS PROGRAM:\nThe following units will be taken to successfully complete Welder Corps. \n\nUNIT I: CORE \nUNIT II: Welding Safety & Cutting Processes\nUNIT III: GMAW & Welding Symbols\nUNIT IV: SMAW & Inspection Basics\nUNIT V: GTAW\nUNIT VI: FCAW & Basic Metallurgy\nUNIT VII: CAPSTONE (Weld Quality & Fabrication)\n\nUpon successful completion of all NCCER Units\, participants will have earned:\n\nNCCER Core credential (with wallet card)\nNCCER Welding Level 2\nThe majority of requirements for NCCER Welding Level 1
